Easy DIY Scented Glitter Glue

This stuff is awesome. Who doesn't love glitter and yummy scents?! It is a great project to have your little ones help with measuring, mixing, and cooking in the kitchen, as well as making artwork with the final product.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 3 cups hot water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • lots of glitter
  • kool-aid mix for scent
  • airtight container to keep it in (in the fridge for longer lasting)

Fill a pot with the water (can adjust recipe to make more or less depending on how many colors and size of containers you would like to fill) and turn the stove on high. When the water is almost at a boil, add the vinegar, salt, and slowly shake in the cornstarch while constantly mixing with a whisk.  Do not leave unattended because the mixture will thicken up very fast. Once the mixture has thickened to an almost clear paste, remove from heat and let cool. If you find the paste is too thick you can add hot water until you reach your desired consistency.

Next, divide your paste into the different containers and add the colored glitter to each container (I used empty glass cooking spice jars and two tablespoons of glitter in each of my four jars). Then to add a scent, pour in some kool-aid mix straight from the packet (I did about 1/3 packet to each color). Use the same color of kool-aid as the glitter if you want to keep your glitter glue the same color since the kool-aid does color the paste a bit. Mix. Mix. Mix.

Time to create some masterpieces! Best kept stored in the fridge and will last for a few months. If the glue thickens in the fridge, you can just mix in some more hot water to thin it out again. Hope you enjoy!
